We’re excited to share some big news! The St. Johns County Parks Foundation has been nationally recognized with the National Association of Park Foundations Lehman Award for Park Foundation Excellence in the Emerging Star category.

This award is given to newer foundations across the country that are already making a measurable difference in their communities. For us, it’s proof that the hard work happening here in St. Johns County is being noticed far beyond our borders.

Building Partnerships, Strengthening Community

In less than a year with new Executive Director Marithza Ross, the Foundation has:

  • Opened pathways for giving and service, including an annual donor campaign and volunteer opportunities for residents and businesses.

  • Created sponsorship opportunities that help fund free and low-cost programs for families.

  • Advanced capital initiatives like the Field of Dreams turf replacement project at Aberdeen Park, ensuring safe, inclusive play for athletes of all abilities.

Beyond these recent efforts, the Foundation has already reinvested more than $1 million into recreation programs and projects countywide, while also aligning with national standards and best practices to better serve Parks & Recreation and the residents of St. Johns County.

Looking Ahead

The recognition also validates the County’s decision to invest in launching the Foundation, which is already paying dividends back to the community through real, tangible impact. With continued donor support, national guidance, and volunteer engagement, we are building a sustainable model that will benefit St. Johns County residents for generations to come.

We’re honored to receive this award—and even more motivated to keep moving forward.
