Looking Forward with a Journey Back: Kicking Off 2025 with the St. Johns County Parks Foundation

As we step into 2025 with renewed energy and focus, it’s important to reflect on the journey that has brought us here. Progress is built on a foundation of vision, dedication, and the efforts of those who came before us. In the story of the St. Johns County Parks Foundation, this holds especially true.

2020 - 2021: A Vision Takes Root

The Parks Foundation began as an idea inspired by Bert Watson, the late St. Johns County Recreation Advisory Board Member, and Doug Bataille, former Parks & Recreation Director. In 2021, the foundation formally came to life, achieving its 501(c)(3) status and laying the groundwork for its mission to enhance our parks and enrich the community.

2022 - 2023: Growth and Giving Back

The foundation’s first funding agreement with St. Johns County Parks and Recreation marked a new chapter. Notable accomplishments included accepting a pivotal land donation at Longleaf Pine and Greenbriar Road, setting the stage for a future recreational site that will offer residents a new place to connect with nature.

2024: Preserving History and Expanding Culture

This past year, we celebrated a historic achievement: relocating the Historic Canright House to Collier-Blocker-Puryear Park in West Augustine. This project, supported by state funding, underscores our commitment to blending history with recreation. The Juneteenth ribbon-cutting ceremony was a celebration of heritage, community, and progress.

As we dive into 2025, we’re bringing the energy! This year, the St. Johns County Parks Foundation is all about building stronger connections with our community. Our New Year’s resolution? To focus on community outreach like never before—sharing our story, hearing yours, and working together to make our parks even better. With everything we’ve accomplished so far, we’re excited to see what we can achieve with you by our side. Let’s make this year unforgettable!
