St. Johns County, FL – The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners has officially proclaimed July 2025 as Parks and Recreation Month, recognizing the vital role that parks, open spaces, and recreational programs play in building a healthy, thriving, and connected community.

Celebrating Our Parks and Natural Spaces
The St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department manages 2,586 acres of active and passive parkland, including:
56 parks
14 boat ramps
3780 acres of conservation land
A public golf course and numerous trails, pools, and recreation facilities

These spaces offer opportunities for sports, exercise, family fun, and quiet connection with nature — all essential ingredients for a well-balanced lifestyle.
Parks Support Wellness, Education, and Growth
Spending time in nature is not just enjoyable — it’s backed by science. Studies show that outdoor recreation improves mental health, enhances cognitive performance, and helps alleviate symptoms of depression, attention deficit disorders, and Alzheimer’s disease.

St. Johns County Parks and Recreation also provides critical programming for youth, veterans, and families, including:
After-school and summer programs
Environmental education
Adaptive recreation
Community events and sports leagues
These programs contribute to the social development of children, create inclusive spaces for all residents, and ensure access to lifelong learning opportunities.

Parks Boost the Local Economy
Parks do more than bring joy — they also fuel economic growth. Parks and recreation services help:
Increase property values
Expand the local tax base
Attract tourists and new residents
Support small businesses and large employers alike
By investing in parks, we’re investing in a prosperous future for our entire community.

A Commitment to Sustainability and Resilience
Our parks aren’t just for play — they are essential environmental infrastructure. From protecting native ecosystems to buffering communities from storms and floods, St. Johns County’s green spaces play a key role in climate resilience. And as our population grows, the Parks and Recreation Department continues to evolve — meeting new demands while staying rooted in community connection.
