Al Wilke Park is named in honor of Al Wilke, a dedicated member of the Hastings community. After relocating to Hastings in 1945 following his service in the Coast Guard, Wilke became an active participant in the local community, holding various positions, including town treasurer and fire chief.
He was known for his love of the outdoors, where he frequently enjoyed fishing and tennis, both of which he often engaged in at the park that would later bear his name. The park was established to celebrate Wilke’s contributions to the community and to provide a space for recreation and connection among residents.

Al Wilke Park continues to be a vital part of the Hastings community, serving as a gathering place where families can enjoy outdoor activities and create lasting memories.
