Are you sure you're getting enough time outside?

According to the National Cancer Institute, our circadian (sir-KAY-dee-un) rhythm is the body’s natural 24-hour clock that influences physical, mental, and behavioral changes. It’s mostly guided by light and darkness, regulated by a small area in the brain that keeps us on track. This internal “body clock” affects everything from sleep and body temperature to hormone levels and appetite. When our circadian rhythm gets thrown off, it can sometimes lead to health issues like obesity, diabetes, depression, bipolar disorder, seasonal affective disorder, and sleep problems like insomnia.

The Mayo Clinic also notes that spending time outdoors can be beneficial, as sunlight helps regulate this rhythm and may ease fatigue, especially during time changes. Learn more here. Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the outdoors by finding parks in their area using the SJC Parks & Rec APP. Download it here
