A Picture-Perfect Evening for Art & Nature at Alpine Groves Park

Writer: Marithza RossMarithza Ross

Some evenings feel almost too perfect to be real—and Friday, March 14, is shaping up to be one of them. As the full moon rises over the St. Johns River, the towering oaks and moss-draped branches of Alpine Groves Park will set the stage for a truly magical night of art, community, and nature.

With mild temperatures, a gentle evening breeze, and clear skies, the weather couldn’t be better for the St. Johns County Parks & Recreation River Reflection, an outdoor gallery celebrating the connection between our waterways and the artists they inspire. Local creatives of all ages and mediums will showcase their work beneath the canopy of trees, as the sunset’s golden hues give way to the soft glow of moonlight.

Performance Painter Amy Dix

Adding to the evening’s charm, performance artist, best-selling author, and international speaker Amy Dix will host the "St. Johns River Creatures" Painting Station, inviting the public  to unleash their creativity and paint their own river-inspired masterpieces.

Whether you're drawn to the art, the inspiration, or simply the breathtaking beauty of the park, this is one night you won’t want to miss. Overflow parking will be available at Hickory Creek Elementary School from 5:30 to 8:00 PM, with a free shuttle transporting guests to and from the event.

One of Our Own

The St. Johns County Parks Foundation is also proud to celebrate one of its own, board member Rhonda Lovett, as she showcases her stunning photography. A native of St. Johns County and a Florida Master Naturalist, Rhonda’s deep connection to Florida’s environment shines through her work. Her love for kayaking and paddleboarding allows her to explore and capture breathtaking perspectives of the waterways she cherishes. More than just a personal passion, Rhonda’s photography supports conservation efforts, with her images being used by organizations such as Audubon chapters, land conservancies, the SJC Parks Foundation, and the St. Johns County Parks & Recreation Department.

The St. Johns County Parks Foundation is proud to support programs and events that enhance parks, recreation, and community engagement. Through its efforts, the foundation helped facilitate Amy Dix’s generous donation of her time and talent, bringing her interactive painting station to River Reflection. This collaboration creates a unique opportunity for attendees to connect with both art and nature in an inspiring way.
